Writing Guide & Assistance

Center for Academic Resilience & Success (CARS)

One of the services available to St. Mary’s Ecumenical Institute students is writing assistance. Writing assistance may be initiated by a student, recommended by an instructor, or mandated by a dean. Dr. Pat Fosarelli, the Director of CARS, is available for academic consultation to help students in three areas:
  • in any aspect of written assignments, including understanding the assignment, choosing a subject, locating sources, crafting a thesis, planning the document, drafting the document, or revising the document;
  • in clarifying expectations or instructions for completing the Academic Skills Assessment (ASA) and providing feedback following the assessment;
  • if needed, for instruction and practice in grammar/mechanics, writing skills, reading comprehension, and critical thinking.
